Original de 1959, do cantautor belga Jacques Brel, em língua francesa, foi adaptada para inglês por Rod McKuen. As versões são diferentes não apenas em termos de língua, mas também de mensagem. Enquanto Brel implora à amada que não o deixe, McKuen apresenta cenários alternativos do que acontecerá se a amada partir ou se ficar.

Celebrizaram a versão francesa (para além de Brel):
